The Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) provides educational and cross-cultural experiences and showcases the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and abroad.

Leiden Law School is currently housed in two beautifully restored historic buildings located in the old centre of Leiden. We also have facilities for teaching and research at Campus Den Haag.
At Campus Den Haag our staff works at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies and for Leiden University College.
Teaching and research
Each year more than 900 students opt to study law, notarial law, tax law or criminology in Leiden. To maintain the quality of our teaching, a numerus fixus applies for tax law or criminology. The total number of Bachelor and Master students is around 5200. In addition, each year around 500 to 600 foreign students come to Leiden, ranging from exchange students studying for one semester in Leiden to students who already have a law degree and have now been selected for one of our eleven Advanced master programmes.
Naturally, the main focus of the faculty’s teaching is the legal system in the Netherlands. After all, this is where many of the faculty alumni will pursue their career – often in prominent positions, for example within the judicial system, local or national government or the legal profession. The faculty continues to gear its study programmes towards developments in the employment market. In recent years new master programmes have been launched in the areas of financial law, labour law and – unique in the Netherlands – child law. A great deal of the faculty research is also directly relevant to professional practice. In this way, Leiden gives substance to its social responsibility.
International focus
But Leiden Law School has also always had a strong international focus. We have a long tradition in the study of international and European law. The first chair in International Tax Law was established in Leiden. More than 100 years ago, Van Vollenhoven studied the adat law system of the Dutch East Indies, and to this day the faculty remains concerned with the law and governance of developing countries. For more than 50 years, in collaboration with Columbia University (US) every two years the faculty organises a summer school on American law. Students are encouraged to spend part of their degree studies abroad. And similarly, many foreign studies find their way to Leiden where they find a wide range of English-taught courses.
To facilitate international collaboration, not only does Leiden Law School have more than 60 exchange agreements, it also participates in various networks including the Strategic Alliance of Research Faculties of Law (SARFaL) and the League of European Research Universities (LERU).

Interdisciplinarity
The Faculty encompasses 4 Institutes:
Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology,

The Centre for Science and Technology Studies is also part of the Faculty. First-rate research is carried out in all these scientific fields, and increasingly across these fields, in an interdisciplinary approach. The Institutes provide a broad, disciplinary teaching programme at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
Research and society
Researchers in the social and behavioural sciences investigate questions prompted by urgent problems in society. These problems are generally connected with individuals’ behaviour and their relationship to systems, such as the family, school, social groups, political institutions, and societies. In today’s world, societal issues develop with an unprecedented dynamic. These issues may relate, for instance, to large migration flows, changes in healthcare and teaching, or a decline in political legitimacy. The effects of globalization call for socio- and behavioural-scientific approaches and solutions.
Teaching and society
Not only the research, but also the teaching provided by the Institutes of the Faculty has a direct two-way relation with society. With 5000 students from all over the world, the Faculty prepares large numbers of young people for leading positions in society in the Netherlands or abroad. In the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, students acquire a solid scientific grounding in a given area of knowledge and develop the skills to address social and societal developments throughout their professional careers. In taking on and exercising important civic roles and positions, our students contribute to society, as well as to innovation and development in the area of socio- and behavioural-scientific issues.

Laki-laki itu bertanya,
`Utsman menjawab,
`Utsman r.a. mengatakan hal tersebut untuk mendidik dan menegur laki-laki itu agar tidak mengulangi apa yang telah dilakukannya.
Selanjutnya Taj al-Subki menjelaskan bahwa bila seseorang hatinya jernih, maka ia akan melihat dengan nur Allah, sehingga ia bisa mengetahui apakah yang dilihatnya itu kotor atau bersih.
Maqam orang-orang seperti itu berbeda-beda. Ada yang mengetahui bahwa yang dilihatnya itu kotor tetapi ia tidak mengetahui sebabnya. Ada yang maqamnya lebih tinggi karena mengetahui sebab kotornya,
seperti ‘Utsman r.a. Ketika ada seorang laki-laki datang kepadanya, `Utsman dapat melihat bahwa hati orang itu kotor dan mengetahui sebabnya yakni karena menghayalkan seorang perempuan.
Dan hati mereka telah dikunci mati, sehingga mereka tidak mengetahui kebahagiaan beriman dan berjihad. (QS Al Taubah [9]: 87)
Sekecil apa pun kemaksiatan akan membuat hati kotor sesuai kadar kemaksiatan itu. Kotoran itu bisa dibersihkan dengan memohon ampun (istighfar) atau perbuatan-perbuatan lain yang dapat menghilangkannya. Hal tersebut hanya diketahui oleh orang yang memiliki mata batin yang tajam seperti ‘Utsman bin `Affan, sehingga ia bisa mengetahui kotoran hati meskipun kecil, karena menghayalkan seorang perempuan merupakan dosa yang paling ringan, `
Utsman dapat melihat kotoran hati itu dan mengetahui sebabnya. Ini adalah maqam paling tinggi di antara maqam-maqam lainnya. Apabila dosa kecil ditambah dosa kecil lainnya, maka akan bertambah pula kekotoran hatinya, dan apabila dosa itu semakin banyak maka akan membuat hatinya gelap.
Orang yang memiliki mata hati akan mampu melihat hal ini. Apabila kita bertemu dengan orang yang penuh dosa sampai gelap hatinya, tetapi kita tidak mampu mengetahui hal tersebut, berarti dalam hati kita masih ada penghalang yang membuat kita tidak mampu melihat hal tersebut, karena orang yang mata hatinya jernih dan tajam pasti akan mampu melihat dosa-dosa orang tersebut.

Imam Syafi’i rahimahullah pernah berkata,
شَكَوْت إلَى وَكِيعٍ سُوءَ حِفْظِي فَأَرْشَدَنِي إلَى تَرْكِ الْمَعَاصِي وَأَخْبَرَنِي بِأَنَّ الْعِلْمَ نُورٌ وَنُورُ اللَّهِ لَا يُهْدَى لِعَاصِي
“Aku pernah mengadukan kepada Waki’ tentang jeleknya hafalanku. Lalu beliau menunjukiku untuk meninggalkan maksiat. Beliau memberitahukan padaku bahwa ilmu adalah cahaya dan cahaya Allah tidaklah mungkin diberikan pada ahli maksiat.” (I’anatuth Tholibin, 2: 190).
Dalam kitab Al-Thabaqat, Taj al-Subki menceritakan bahwa ada seorang laki-laki bertamu kepada ‘Utsman bin Affan radhiallahu anhu. Laki-laki tersebut baru saja bertemu dengan seorang perempuan di tengah jalan, lalu ia menghayalkannya. ‘Utsman berkata kepada laki-laki itu,
“Aku melihat ada bekas zina di matamu.”
Laki-laki itu bertanya,
"Apakah wahyu masih diturunkan sctelah Rasulullah SAW wafat?”
`Utsman menjawab,
“Tidak, ini adalah firasat seorang mukmin.”
`Utsman r.a. mengatakan hal tersebut untuk mendidik dan menegur laki-laki itu agar tidak mengulangi apa yang telah dilakukannya.
Selanjutnya Taj al-Subki menjelaskan bahwa bila seseorang hatinya jernih, maka ia akan melihat dengan nur Allah, sehingga ia bisa mengetahui apakah yang dilihatnya itu kotor atau bersih.

Dan hati mereka telah dikunci mati, sehingga mereka tidak mengetahui kebahagiaan beriman dan berjihad. (QS Al Taubah [9]: 87)

Apabila kita bertemu dengan orang yang penuh dosa sampai gelap hatinya, tetapi kita tidak mampu mengetahui hal tersebut, berarti dalam hati kita masih ada penghalang yang membuat kita tidak mampu melihat hal tersebut, karena orang yang mata hatinya jernih dan tajam pasti akan mampu melihat dosa-dosa orang tersebut.

Mewaspadai Perilaku Yahudi dan Nasrani

“Kamu akan mengikuti perilaku orang-orang sebelum kamu sejengkal demi sejengkal dan sehasta demi sehasta, sehingga kalau mereka masuk ke lubang biawak pun kamu ikut memasukinya.” Para sahabat lantas bertanya, “Apakah yang anda maksud orang-orang Yahudi dan Nasrani, ya Rasulullah?” Beliau menjawab, “Siapa lagi (kalau bukan mereka)?” (Hadits no. 3456 dalam kitab Shahih Bukhari )
Hadits ini sangat terkenal di kalangan umat Islam. Tentu inti pesan yang ingin disampaikan oleh Rasulullah saw. adalah kita tidak boleh mengikuti perilaku orang-orang yahudi yang hidup pada masa Rasulullah saw. Pertanyaannya, bagaimana sih perilaku kaum yahudi dan nasrani yang hidup zaman Rasulullah?
